Sectional, roller shutter or sliding — which door is right for your garage?

We compare the three most common systems by headroom, budget, insulation and day-to-day use.

Comparison of door types

People often start choosing a door by price, but the right order is different: first the building conditions, then how the door will be used, and only then the budget.

1. Check the headroom

If there is more than 40 cm of free space above the opening, a sectional door is the best choice. With 25–35 cm left, consider a roller shutter system. If there is no space at all, a swing or sliding door remains the option.

2. How important is insulation?

If the garage adjoins the house or houses a workshop, a sectional door with 40 mm panels is clearly superior to the alternatives. In a detached garage the difference is less noticeable.

3. How many times a day does the door open?

A domestic mechanism is enough for up to 10–15 openings a day. If a commercial site exceeds 50 cycles a day, choose the industrial series — otherwise the mechanism will wear out in a few months rather than a few years.
